Hi, working with data in different Coordinate Reference Systems, I think it
would be a useful feature if QGIS was able to prompt to 'Enable on the fly
CRS transform' by looking at the layer you are adding and determining if
that is layer is likely to be in another CRS?

I would think this could be done relatively easily with shapefiles taking
account of the prj file. Would there be an issues with adding this kind of
functionality? I know On the Fly does slow things down, but if it is
available as a choice I wouldn't see this as a problem.

My experience is with UK Ordnance Survey Open Data in EPSG:27700 and other
data in EPSG:4326 and EPSG:4277. I think it could be a very useful feature
to newer users, those that aren't as familiar with CRSs and particularly
those people that aren't familiar with the QGIS UI. I know the current
option is a simple tick and it is easy when you know where it is, but this
is often not intuitive for a new user.

There didn't appear to be a bug regarding this, I know there is Ticket #363
( http://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/363 ) but I believe this is a different
use case ( Ticket #363 having it as default this being an option on adding
a specific layer )?

Thought I would raise it here for feedback before attempting to add an
issue.

Cheers
