Luis, which repositories are you using? gdal-1.7.3 is very old, consider using the ubuntugis-unstable repositories (and remove the qgis.org repository if you're using that one).
I find it puzzling that you have files installed in /usr/local - because packages from either ubuntu the ubuntugis ppa should not install there.
