Hi, again. You'r rigth, is necesary export the raster to a grass location and mapset bla bla bla... I think there is a tool to do it in Qgis, is an experimental complement "processing" [https://hub.qgis.org/projects/sextante/] maybe you should install it.
When installed go to Processing > toolbox. In toolbox go to Scripts > [Example scripts]raster processing > Unique values count Good luck.
