Hi Alexander,
what format other than the standard shp format could be proposed then for
e.g. for the Processing output (GRASS and SAGA functions seem not to
support memory layer)?
And it does not seem to be possible to change the default save option from
shp to sth else permanently for the toolbox?
The charm of Processing is that you can quickly do a lot of
trial-and-error-runs on datasets without having to care where the data
ends up cause its temporary anyway.
So changing the default export format to (?) without changing the workflow
would just be great.
What I learned now:
Do not use shp for joining layers, but (-you name it-)

The brilliant Processing Toolbox e.g. produces tons of ... shapefiles.
Processing can create output in any GDAL supported vector format for you.
All you need is to specify correct format. Also Processing can create
memory
layers.
Shapefiles is just default option, as almost all GIS software can work
with them,
so one can easy reuse results in another program. If you work only in
QGIS feel
free to save in another format.
