Brent, I haven't designed the schema yet, so I haven't made any decisions as to whether to use views, stored queries, tables etc. My question revolves around adding and editing maps, not so much the design of the underlying data storage. I absolutely do need to be able to create and edit visual maps and store their representation in a database, so the use of a GIS tool is indispensable.
Having said all of that, if all QGIS can do is create a table based on a layer, then that's what I'll do. I can always write a backend SQL script to manipulate the new table and/or store it into the representation of my choice. Thanks for the reply. Davis
