So please go to http://docs.qgis.org/2.8/en/docs/ and http://docs.qgis.org/2.8/en/docs/training_manual/ and download the exercise data http://qgis.org/downloads/data/training_manual_exercise_data.zip as stated here: http://docs.qgis.org/2.8/en/docs/training_manual/foreword/preparing_data.html#preparing-exercise-data I think it is renamed 'roads.shp' now.... so please follow the new updated training.
