Hi Stace,

Sorry to hear about that. Can you remind me, when you tried to contact me? I couldn't find any record of it.

Normally I am pretty responsive to such questions: even if we normally don't do earmarked donations, we always try to help you find a developer with the expertise to help fix issues.

We also have the QGIS grants program, where contributors can propose a project that is funded from the general donations and sponsorships. Improving installer and user experience on the MacOS platform could be one such project.

Note that GRASS and QGIS are separate projects with their own, different release schedules. It is normal that sometimes things break between this too separate projects - not on purpose, but it happens. This is nothing specific on the MacOS platform. It also happens on Windows and Linux.

About your general complaint that we tend to neglect the MacOS platform: are you aware that we just recently did a fund raising initiative targeted specifically to fixing issues on the MacOS platform? See http://blog.qgis.org/2018/09/12/macosx-specific-bug-fixing-campaign/

About 30 people contributed a little more than 3000 € altogether. So people do care about it - but to put in in perspective: one single ESRI license probably costs more than what this campaign raised. Nevertheless, it was nice to see that >30 people chipped in and it shows that the QGIS.ORG project also cares about it. There are some nice results from this initiative and we will soon blog about the results for the campaign.

Greetings,

Andreas

Have you tried e.g. https://qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/governance/sponsorship/sponsorship.html#qgis-sponsorship-program ?
Cheers.

Again, we’d love to know how to do this, and who to contact
directly for some actual results. We’ve tried. No one seems to be
interested beyond suggesting that we contribute.

I don't think anger and rage are in any way a way to change things.

Especially right after a release sprint with so much effort by so
    much people.

Coming back to the real topic, MacOS really lacks funds to support
packaging. It is way more difficult to package and solve some
issues on MacOS. I have seen a lot of people working hard on
having it running correctly, and it is NOT easy.

If you have any fund or developpers available, please contribute
    back.

    Thanks

To be fair, Esri doesn’t claim to run on a Mac.

Also, we’ve reached out numerous times to QGIS.org and others
trying to find out how to fund this, with total silence from
everywhere, including this list. So there’s that.

Is it really a put up or shut up issue when you are releasing
this as a stable release? Really?

To be fair you can't run ESRI on a mac either, but this is
basically a put up or shut up issue - hire a developer to fix
the mac build if you can't do it your self.

people to use something that doesn’t work, out of the box.
I’ve been trying for 2 days now to get back to a working
copy of QGIS3. It’s my fault, of course. I know better
than to upgrade, now.  If you aren’t going to test it

Here is what I get when running GRASS tools:

Yes, I read the ReadMe and followed the instructions

Yes, I’ve added the ENV variables

Yes, I’ve scrubbed everything and done a clean install
            (several times)

Yes, I even tried the futile installation of the GRASS
“required frameworks” which seem to be the only solutions
anyone is able to suggest on StackExchange.

Yes I tried installing GRASS on it’s own and pointing to
it from the processing settings, which didn’t work.

Perfectly open to suggestions that DON’T involve any of
            the above.
