I've gone the route of schroot, and also lxd (similar to docker but a little easier to manage) would be an option on Ubuntu.
I noticed people mentioned Flatpak and AppImage, what about SNAPS. Pretty sure SNAPS would let you have multiple versions on the same machine at the same time. Didn't realize Flatpak doesn't.
