Hi, What operating system are you using?
Did you import QGIS 2.x settings? My guess is some faulty/non-working plugin from 2.x is causing that. Or some imported project default settings. Try cleaning your settings. Open QGIS using your colleague's project, go to options > profiles and create a new (clean) profile. See if it opens well. If it does, that should become your default profile.
