You might try the KML Tools plugin https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/kmltools/. For some data it is a little more robust in its conversions than the default QGIS KML importer / exporter and it will preserve KML styling when exporting as long as only simple, graduated, or categorized symbology is used.
