Anything that you can do with expressions, in this case to get a number between 0 and 100, but it will always affect the whole layer globally. You can not set a different opacity for different regions. For this, approaches like Ujaval's suggestion are probably the best way.

I'd still really like to know what can be done using an expression for the Global Opacity of a raster layer.
