Basically the file formatting of Quill and Perfection are very similar. There are control codes for Bold On, Bold Off etc. etc. These are very easy to find in a file. Text87 works more like a PC word processor. When it comes to a font change (and things like Bold On and Bold Off are regarded as font changes), a little flag goes up to say there has been a font change. This must then be recorded somehow in all the formatting information at the end of the file. Dave Walker wrote an extensive guide to the fomatting of all types of QL files, but even he appealed for help on Text87 formatting.
