They are still dirt cheap.
I got a 3GB one for about £40. It works brilliantly as the *only* drive
on a Linux based MiniItx internet server. Total consumption is a max 22W
and *totally* silent.  A small USB will run it and the internet router
for well over an  hour.

I have a 64mb CF that I will never use. All it needs to work with IDE
(and therefore Qubide) is a pcmcia adapter (plastic), and an IDE
interface card (this cost me about £25).  Neither have any logic - they
are just connectors.
