In that case, stop half way through writing the image to QL (hard disc or whatever) and then zip that to an HD disc. Then do the second half to another HD disc.

Transfer to destination, concatenate both files together again and Robert is your Mother's Brother!

Actually, as we know the format of a QL disk wouldn't it just be easier to write a program in q-emulator or QPC2 to 'generate' a blank ED disk image?
