I have reproduced the problem with Q-emulator. I get "not enough memory"
when I try to attach a 1 GB QXL.win file. I set the QL to as much memory
as I can and I still get the error. With an 800 MB QXL.win file, it
attaches just fine.
I'm thinking that 1 GB is hitting some boundary, meaning that the variable
that handles the QXL.win file can't go as high as 1 GB. You might try it
with 999 MB and see if that works. This would point to a boundary issue.
My question is why would you want such a large QXL.win file? How many
files can be stored on such a QXL.win file? Would it hit some QDOS file
system limit?

It's the main QXL.WIN from my QPC2. It contains a huge amount of programs,
Line Design files and fonts and graphics which wouldn't fit in 800MB unless
I split over two. Think of the QL CD-ROMs I have - I think that my PC
contains many qxl.win CD images too.
Keeping a QXL.WIN of this size organised is no mean feat. Occasionally there
are so many sub-directories I have to keep path names short to avoid running
into QL filename length limits.
I'm glad you've reproduced the problem, I thought I was going mad having had
so many unusual Windows and QDOSMSQ niggling problems this week!
