I also use Thunderbird and have been for about (checking oldest e-mail)
... Nov. 2007. Been working like a champ. Just remember to find out
where the Thunderbird files are (mailbox, address book, etc) so you can
back them up. I also use the add on that provides Calendar and task
lists. It works the same for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Another option is that some web browsers have an e-mail client built in.
Before Thunderbird, I used Opera and it had an e-mail client.
