Thanks for the swift responses. I bought my QLIB in 1988 and I guess 
from the catalogue of changes listed by Dilwyn that it is well time 
expired.

As for externals, I have given up that route since external subs cannot 
READ DATA in the main program. Don't anyone ask how I got here or I might 
just tell them!

I am still tho' interested in timeouts and RD_PTR & RPTR from the QPTR 
toolkit. Forgetting the mouse and just using the keyboard via INKEY$ 
allows one to use the timeout return to update the screen with interim 
data. Rubber lining. This CAN be done with looped calls to RD_PTR (see 
TT's PAINT_BAS with the QPTR kit) but there are more updates than 
necessary and I suspect with a complex structure (Bezier curve) the whole 
thing may grind to a halt. And I don't really want to switch back to C 
since my current activity is supposed to be light amusement in SuperBasic!
