I've added a short article to the QL Docs page on my website about PIC
files. If you can, it's always best to use pointer environment
facilities to save and handle these area save files, if you really
must try to handle them with your own code, this article provides some
theory, including basic information on the high colour modes (bits per
pixel etc) taken from the GD2 docs, which should provide a starting
point for generating your own code to handle these files in your own
programs.
