Yes, I have been waiting for someone to fix the gpx/xml stuff for years now. 

It's the same mess as usual: When it comes to data formats the XML mafia will 
scream: "Do it with XML. It is standard, it's easy and it's all automatic.". 
But when it actually comes to correct XML implementations and actual code for 
this fantastic, bulky data format, most XML advocates disappear in thin air.

Thus my call still stands: Will someone thinking that XML is a real neat thing 
and knowing how to handle that stuff correctly stand up and fix the code, 
please? 

And until this volunteer actually sends us real code instead of wise words we 
have to life with the current mess :)

Honestly I do not have a clue how to do it right. And if I see those specs 
that force me to spend a trillion of bytes just to save a flag for a track 
point, I loose motivation completely.
