Hi all, working on consolidation of the features and GUI I tried to add a few enhancements to the 3D view. I wanted to see these for a long time. To make a long story short. I rewrote the thing from scratch picking the fillets from the old code and adding my own ideas and a bit of ketchup.
The 3D view has, next to the old rotation view, a first person view (FPV) now. And you can place the point of view on a track, replaying last summer's great hike in cyberspace. Additionally the view is enhanced by a compass, elevation meter and artificial horizon for better orientation. As said my main goal is the consolidation of the application. There has been quite some feedback from the Wiki authors that crystallized into many little fixes and changes. Have a look at the attached change log. Part of the consolidation process is to weed out the source code. There have been many ideas over the past years that made it into the code and I am still open for new ones. However some ideas weren't that clever in the end and some never developed very well because of lacking interest. That is why I start to disable these things. "Disable" is not "remove". If someone volunteers to adopt one of these features to make it a well working one, they are back in. But I personally will not spend time on them anymore. Ok here is the list: * Win32 binary. Reason: The installer does not work well. No support from the Win32 community at all. Despite from binary support I will maintain the code base to be compilable. * WMS maps. Reason: It never worked very well, I have no use for it and no clue how to do it the right way. Too much XML voodoo for my taste :) * Search Garmin maps for polylines and POIs. Reason: Doing it with a SQL database is brain dead and the original goal, to find all polylines of a hiking trail, never really worked. * Create worldmap from OSM. Reason: It's not fair to the OSM project and the map gets too big for the original goal to create a basemap for QLandkarte M. * Color picker. Reason: It's of no real use and I forgot the reason for it. ...maybe more to come That's it. Have fun with the new release!
