Hi Dave,

again, this is an internal error in GDAL. Not QLGT. 

You suspect a memory problem. Is there enough memory? I have 4GB of RAM and 
that seems to be sufficient to do all kinds of things with maps of ~1-2GB size.

I personally would suspect your GDAL version if it is still 1.7.2.


Concerning your mount problem. Yes, a mount point is nothing else than a 
directory. Thus the system will simply write data to that path if nothing is 
mounted.
