Hi Oliver, I see the handle and get a doublearrow when the mouse hoovers over it, but I am unable to resize it with the mouse as you described.

Thus changing the size is the only way to go. You have to find the handle of the splitter view. Normally it's right in the middle of the movable splitter frame. Sometimes it's marked by a graphical element. The mouse will change if you hoover over it. if you have found it press the left mouse button and move the mouse.
