Hi Joachim,

the "using internal..." message is normal and simply states that if there is a 
no data value it's converted to 0xFFFF. Anyway I can't see a reason why it 
fails. But you can try to load the hgt directly. QLGT supports *.tif *.tiff 
*.hgt *.blx *.vrt. Maybe that gives a hint why it's not working. Also it's a 
good idea to start QLGT from the console with parameter "-d". That enables the 
debug messages.
