Hi John, are you sure you do not mix up track and waypoints? A track point will give you " distance and time from start and finish,". A waypoint doesn't but you can edit a waypoint and add arbitrary information to it. You can't edit a track point, as a track point is the result of a recording and must not be spoofed. The text attached to a trackpoint is derived from the record.
If you want to document stuff with a sticky text box you have to use an overlay. There is a static text box that is always at the same position of the canvas and geo-referenced text box that is static to a position. To add a geo-referenced text box you select the function (F6->F6) press the left mouse button an move the mouse to define the text box. Release the button and define the position.
