compiling QMapShack from repository is bleeding edge, too. So it fits perfectly.

Usually development removes more bugs than introducing new ones. If it wouldn't 
be 
like that projects become unusable pretty fast. But of course a commit can 
introduce 
a critical bug, too. Or it's just half finished work to synchronize several 
PCs. Anyway it 
can destroy your data. 

A release is usually done at a stage the developers have the feeling it won't 
destroy 
everything right on the spot. There is no guarantee. But chances are way lower 
than 
compiling latest of the greatest.

That said, there is a binary package for SuSE 13.2 with latest release.
