QMS can read a file directly from the Garmin Zumo XT. I just tested it
using the menu: File->'Load GIS Data'.
It seems to me like this is simply using the file manager, not directly
with QMS.
No reason for Oliver to dive into this, the file manager (thunar) devs
have already handled it.

Ok, that's the reason. That's very unfortunate. That means I can't
use QMS with the zumo XT.
Many years ago I played around with MTP and Linux and it was a mess.
It might be better these days as there are more MTP devices in the
market. But I can not tell. The other caveat is that a solution
should cover Windows and MacOS, too. I do not know if there is a
library that covers all. Anyway someone has to implement it. I do not
have a device that requires MTP.
There is a shift towards MTP and all newer devices will likely use
MTP. If there is anything I can do to help the devs to implement
MTP support, please let me know.
