I'm using the same versions of qmail/-ldap/-control and having the same
problems. The server concerned is going to act as an alias server, accepting
mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] and forwarding on to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] where mailserver may or may not
be a qmail server. I also have problems with an SMTP relay that was compiled
with qmail-ldap-control. The only server that works correctly with the
control patch is one of the end points, however auth_pop seems to be
throwing auth errors on previously valid uids. I'm probably doing something
really stupid, but here we go.
I'm starting qmail-send as follows:
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" DEBUGLEVEL=255 \
qmail-start "`cat /var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery`" splogger qmail-send
called by /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-send/run as follows:

As you can see the system is setup as "Life with Qmail", except I'm using
splogger.

When I reinstall qmail-ldap, there are no problems with the relaying onward.
