Neither. It is looking for the mailaddress...
search string:
'(|(mail=MAILADDRESS)(mailAlternateAddress=MAILADDRESS))'
and if that is not found:
'(|(mail=catchall@DOMAINADDRESS)(mailAlternateAddress=catchall@DOMAINADDRESS))'
