LDAP has a referral machanism, read more on openldap.org - I don't use it
and I'm not familar with it, but it should do the trick. It's an OpenLDAP
issue, not qmail-ldap's.

No. If multiple servers listed in ldapserver they are used redundant, e. g.
the second one is only queried when the first one isn't reachable at all.
