had you read the original message you might have noticed my apology and
reasoning for asking here and my frustration with the courier-list not
allowing me to sub for days on end :-p they *finally* fixed their lists
(tho they haven't yet replaced mailman with ezmlm as they should) and i
was finally able to ask my question in the appropriate forum.

i belive one of the developers suggested couriers auth over
auth_ldap/auth_pop in this forum. this is what i based my choice of auth
mechanisms on. personally i haven't had issue with the imap server or
auth mechanism, other than a lack of DEBUG info in the logs.
courier-imap is fitting the bill quite well.
