spamming on qmail

hi all   i m a newbie on qmail ...my mail server is becoming slow 'coz of spamming ,so i wanna control spamming on it....by controlling the number of reciepients and bloking spam on my server..   i m running qmail-1.03 on hp-ux 11.0 with ldap support on it.   as far as info available on net i have tried applying some  freeware patches(qmail-smtpd-maxrcpt.tar.gz and spamcontrol patch from lwq links ) on it..but they r giving errors 'coz of some contoversies .probably they r meant 4 fresh qmail-1.03 ....   hlp what is the solution of my problem   regards niti
