Not true if you're using a RAID controller with battery-backed RAM, and
plenty of cache. These have come down in price, especially on Ebay. I bought
one for my home PC. it works great with all FSs mounted "sync". It provides
even better performance than "async" mode when your machine's memory is
running low. You can always save memory with the controller by reconfiguring
your kernel to use less memory for FS cache, offloading everything to the
controller. Problem solved.
