Your ldap server may not be returning search results fast enough and the mail is then rejected. Make sure you are indexing the 'mail' attribute (or whatever you are using for the emailaddress attribute) as well as 'mailalternateaddress'. Just a thought, I came across this as well and that ended up being my problem.

It's working very well, and we're very happy with it, apart from one little thing. Some of the mails are rejected although they exist in the ldap database. Not all the time, which is the weird part. Mails are only rejected in a very random manner. The qmail server sends the standard message back about the user not being found. I've attached an example email that comes back. I added the part about adding uwc.org etc in a .qmail-default file. It wasn't there before, and we had the same problem. I've installed a version which is a couple of months old. qmail-ldap-1.03-20011001a.patch qmail-1.03 smtp-after-pop-20010801.patch Also had the smtp-auth-20011001.patch, but I don't think I installed it on the final version that I'm running now. Any ideas what could be wrong? Here's the ldap entry for one of the users that failed: dn: uid=ac78bnoy,o=uwc ufn: ac78bnoy, uwc sn: Noyes uwcCollege: AC uwcCollegeFirstName: Brian mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] objectClass: top objectClass: person objectClass: organizationalPerson objectClass: uwcPerson objectClass: qmailUser objectClass: MIGitem uwcCollegeSurname: Noyes cn: Brian Noyes uwcStartYear: 1978 MigCategory: MIGuser uid: ac78bnoy MigLastModifiedBy: ac78bnoy mailAlternateAddress: [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailAlternateAddress: [EMAIL PROTECTED] MigLastModifiedDate: 20020521234115PDT deliveryMode: localdelivery mailMessageStore: ac78bnoy userPassword:: e2NyeXB0fXN0cmJNSENoVFYuWkU= The failed entry was [EMAIL PROTECTED], so it was a mailAlternateAddress. Here's the error message: >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: failure notice >Date: 21 May 2002 20:01:47 -0000 > >Hi. This is the qmail-send program at uwc.net. >I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following >addresses. >This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. > > > ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: >Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. If you sent a message to @uwc.org, try >sending to @uwc.net instead. If you are sure you have sent to the correct >email address, please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] and attach this email. > >--- Below this line is a copy of the message. > I hope you can help. It's turning out to be a very critical error. We've got around 2-3000 users on the system. Not extreme load, but steady usage, and I'm getting a lot of complaints about this. Any chance I can have a workaround with some script in .qmail-default??? Regards, Lars
