1) Check from your iPlanet admin console the password encrytion whether it is supported by qmailLDAP or not. 2) Check the existence, priviliges and ownership homeDirectory/mailMessageStore 3) Check any mis-config informaiton in /var/qmail/control by running qmail-showctl
