I fully agree! It took Claudio (?) two-three months to get this transition working. I had it a couple of months before in my patch... If this is to be a OpenSource (?) project, Claudio (or whoever's in charge nowadays - I saw that the previous announcement came from somewhere else) could at least accept the patch (possibly after a voting) and then rewrite it any way he sees fit afterwards.
