Actually I don't fully agree with you Mike.. yes there is control ( Depends
what control you want? Isn't it the same with the Exchange Public Folders?)
Exchange Public folders (Guess why its called 'public') is for sharing
calendar/notes/any shits to anybody in your _user group_. If you want more
privacy then use Net folders which infact is working nicely for small
workgroups.
I've been working on a Exchange replacement recently using qmail-ldap. Why
qmail-ldap?
qmail is enuf secure and stable and ldap will be useful for the shared
address book/users settings/control, and why imap - cause imap can share its
folders and it`s working fine integrated with ldap, what costs to hack
qmail-ldap schema and any imap server /let say courier/ and put your tweaks
in it. and here you go.. done. However, after that you`ll need a connector
for the IMAP server :).. and so on.
The idea of InsightServer is to replace exchange, but there is no point
using it without insight connector or IS connector without the IS server..
(That`s your answer Andrew) But however you can build your own replacement;)
Qmail - MTA
LDAP - Settings Storage / Shared/Not Shared Adressbook / Access Control
IMAP - Shared users folders / Not shared
Outlook Connector - Why? you can not use imap with Internet mail, this
connector is syncing your Client with the server.. simple. hint hint VBA
add-on for outlook?
that's all you need? right
