'@' in uid (uid= user@domain)

Hi,

Was there an official patch to the problem with stupid mail clients that don't 
allow the @ in the username (like Netscape 4.7) ?

I searched the archives and found a hint, but I am not sure if such a patch 
made it to checkpasswd or not.
