phew, thx Mike....but then another test i did was quite ALARMING.
the test from http://members.iinet.net.au/~remmie/relay/ was ABLE to send an
email to me from @imap.example.com
<snip>
ok Let's check something when you did that test I'm assuming in the server field you put in your mail server address.

If the recipient address you entered is an address that you host then the mail should arrive as that is normal mail function.

For this test to work you need to put in your mail server and then a recipient address as an account on another domain that you can check.
ie a hotmail or yahoo account.

As an example my mail server is mail4.blahz.ab.ca and I put in my hotmail account [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I get the following transaction which is correct:

<<< 220 mail4.blahz.ab.ca -- Welcome to BlahZ SMTP -- Protected by ordb.org -- Qmail-LDAP 1.03 ESMTP
>>>> HELO staff.iinet.net.au
<<< 250 mail4.blahz.ab.ca -- Welcome to BlahZ SMTP -- Protected by ordb.org -- Qmail-LDAP 1.03

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
>>>> MAIL FROM:
<<< 250 ok
>>>> RCPT TO:
<<< 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

Which should be similar to what you see.

i have populated control/badmailfrom-unknown with
@imap.example.com
I would remove this as it is probably not what you want to do.,
