Thanks Claudio, that's helpful enough : I found an smtp proxy on a 
firewall in front of this server.
I'll check it out.

Nothing found so this is not a qmail-ldap error message.
Without more info it is impossible to help you.
IMHO this seems like a remote smtp error message of some other mailserver.
