I am bringing this old topic back, because the new courier (2.0.0) has an option (compile time --with-trashquota) which counts the Trash folder and messages marked as deleted in the quota, this is very useful because users always go overquota with messages deleted and not moved to Trash (courier has an option to expunge Trash after certain time). What will happen with qmail-local when it updates maildirsize in such case, can qmail do the same (a control option would be nice).

But using a cron job to do the task of actually removing deleted (but not purged) messages would take a long time (I have several thousands of maildirs).
Is there anyway I can do it directly from the IMAP server

Courier-IMAP has a way of triggering a script/executable when a file is placed in a certain directory. I'm thinking about making a SPAM directory for all my users. They can drop spam into that directory and have Courier-IMAP use it to build a Bayesian filter with SpamAssassin.

Thank you for quick reply, but I need one more tip. How do I know that the message is marked for deletion.

All files in .Trash/ are ignored and files with .*:2,[A-SU-Z]*T.* are ignored in the quota calculation.
