I can't back that 100%-ly. While bdb is nice and has especially better write performance it is definitifly a lot more trickier than ldbm. Especially you need to configure it correcly and if you have a crash you need to restore the db (this is not done automatically). On some 64bit systems bdb is a incredible memory hog.
