number of mail in maildir

Hello,   I thinks this is not the good list to post this question but i want to know experience of qmail-ldap users.   I have one maildir with 20000 mail (in one folder) It’s cause imap trouble.   How can I increase the number of possible mails in one folder ?   Thanks .
