Yesterday on Slashdot, a story was posted about SATA RAID IDE
controllers.  The Intel ICH5R came up as the most consistent performer
for RAID 0, 1, or 0+1 speed:

The report did not test the 3ware controllers, which can do RAID 5 in
addition to the others above, but if you want speed you should
definitely go with RAID 0+1 or just 0.

I have not used the particular one you mention.  I would use SATA
instead of SCSI if possible.
