qmailDotMode = dotonly and deliveryMode = reply problems

When I have a users qmailDotMode set to dotonly, and they set their out 
of office reply (deliveryMode=reply, and some mailReplyText), anybody 
can email them, and they (the sender) don't get out of office replies 
back. 
Once i remove the dotonly mode, the senders get replies. 

This is on a qmail-ldap-1.0.3 patch level 20041201.

Is there a fix for this?
