I am running an old (I think easily dated 2 or more years ago) qmail-ldap patch on my live server. I am thinking of upgrading to the latest patch.
I have a development server with identical setup and patch version. I would like to copy all mail from every user from the live box into the development server and upgrade the backend (openLDAP, courier and qmail-ldap) from there. I want to copy the mails, so that I can be sure their integrity after upgrading. I am no sysadmin and I treat this as a learning path. If I screw up anything, I am more than happy to startover. Question, how do I copy mail from the live to the development server. Can I just tar /var/qmail/maildir and ftp it across? Please help.
