Hi Friedrich,

I suggest you to use Dovecot IMAP server and POP3 server. If you use auth_dovecot, auth_imap  option qmail will fork a command on every login attempt which consumes CPU.

If you have more than one backend servers you should use dovecot with proxy_maybe option (see http://beingasysadmin.wordpress.com/2013/01/20/mail-cluster-with-qmail-and-dovecot-proxy/ )
