I saw a message in the archives concerning this error, but didn't see any
solutions. I am running Sophos Sweep under Qmail-Scanner, and have been for
some time. It has been working well, but in the last few days I've started
seeing a strange error in the logs:
Apr 21 20:35:49 mail qmail: 1019439349.669006
X-Qmail-Scanner-1.01:[mail101943933139628200] corrupt or unknown Sophos
scanner/resource problems - exit status 2
In the archives, something was mentioned about softlimits being too low, but
I don't think it helped. Here is the way I'm invoking Qmail:
sh -c "start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --user qmails \
--exec /usr/sbin/qmail-send \
--startas /usr/sbin/qmail-start -- \"$alias_empty\" $logger
&"
ulimit -v 25576
sh -c "start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --user qmaild \
--exec /usr/bin/tcpserver -- \
-R -H -l0 -u `id -u qmaild` -g `id -g nobody` -x
/home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb 0 smtp \
/usr/sbin/qmail-smtpd 2>&1 | $logger -t qmail -p mail.notice &"
This server is an Athlon 1500 with 768 MB of RAM on the 2.4.13 kernel. We
are running a local and remote concurrency of 20. We seem to have plenty of
memory on the machine. I have not upgraded my Sweep lately (besides the .ide
releases). We plan on going to the next web version when it is released on
the 26th.
I guess I have three questions:
1) What is happening to the messages when the error occurs (ie. are they
being delivered without being scanned)?
2) Do I need to be doing something different in my invocation of Qmail?
3) What can I do to stop these errors?
Thanks.
