Sorry, my mistake. I had thought that I read somewhere while researching qmail-scanner that it tagged each mail with an ID. When I checked the full header (example below) I didn't remember seeing such an ID on prior to installing qmail-scanner. I guess I just wasn't looking for it. I guess that's the qmail message id, which, according to qmail documents is only unique while the message is "in queue." Since the ID seemed based on date/time/random/sender adrress - it's hard to imagine it not being unique. Anyway, more a "qmail" question.
