qmail-scanner's configure script requires spamc to be present as /usr/bin/spamc.  It 
then checks to make sure spamd is functional by piping a message through spamc, which 
should connect to your spamd and give a report.  if your daemon is started, and 'echo 
"" | /usr/bin/spamc' works, then you should be good to go.
