Err - from that I think we can say that you are NOT losing mail. Just
because you get the odd SMTP failure doesn't mean you're losing mail. You're
only losing mail because your SMTP client isn't requeuing and trying later...
[i.e. it's your fault, not mine ;-)]

"Unable to reopen fd 0" means that there is a resource problem on the other
end (that's assuming this happens only now-and-then - not continually).
Apparently it fixes itself too...  Maybe there are memory issues or the like
- that's all site-specific and only you can find that out.

This all looks like it's working and you're NOT losing mail.
